An 11-year-old girl has died after she was involved in a fight outside her elementary school allegedly over a boy.
Joanna Ramos died in hospital hours after the scuffle with another girl, 11, but police said there were no plans to make any arrests.
The fight on Friday at Willard Elementary in Long Beach, California, did not appear to be especially serious or violent, according to authorities. No weapons were used and neither girl was knocked to the ground.

The fight was planned in advance, lasted less than a minute and was witnessed by around seven other students, according to Deputy Police Chief Robert Lun.
When the girl returned to an after school club following the fight, she complained of a headache to staff.
Her parents took her to hospital around 6pm where she was unconscious and not breathing on arrival.
Miss Ramos had emergency surgery but died about six hours after the fight.

The girl's friend Stephanie Soltero tearfully told ABC: 'It was over a boy, it's so stupid.'
The coroner has not yet determined a cause of death. Police were investigating but said no arrests were immediately planned.
